Arthur O. Eger
How "product phases" can map the status quo and future of a product

Arthur O. Eger (1950) studied Industrial Design Engineering at the Delft University of Technology. In 1979 he co-founded the design bureau Van Dijk/Eger/Associates. In 1996 he left the bureau (that was named Well Design in 1997) and, after a short interim project, became director of Space Expo in Noordwijk. In 2003 he was appointed professor in Product Design at the course Industrial Design Engineering of the University of Twente.

In this thesis he describes the phenomena that appear during the various phases of a product's life. The regularities that were found have been analysed and described. This has led to six product phases: performance, optimisation, itemisation, segmentation, individualisation, and awareness. The six phases are placed in a chronological order such that predictions about new or future products can be made.
